In broad terms,I would call this as some belief somebody has on some power or source. How does this happens? Since you do not have everything under your control and expect something that you dont deserve,then you wish sincerely that(what you dont deserve) should come to you and you put the burden on the religion representative.
Almost around the world there are so many belief's and different versions of Religion and each of them consider themselves as the superior.
I feel that each relgion is trying to poach other person's religion by showing that what good his religion can do. So finally all religions are trying to make people more happy and stay at peace.As you say "ALL roads lead to ROME" but also there is one more attachment to this "BE a ROMAN when in ROME".
